The main goal of GEO4CIVHIC is to develop and demonstrate easier to install and more efficient GSHEs, using innovative compact drilling machines tailored for the built environment & developing or adapting HPs and other hybrid solutions in combination with RES for retrofits through a holistic engineering and controls approach improving the return of investments.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
GEO4CIVHIC’s target is to accelerate the deployment of shallow geothermal systems for heating and cooling in retrofitting existing and historical buildings. It is based on innovative solutions investigated by an international expert group of companies and research centres.

Most easy, efficient and low cost geothermal systems for retrofitting civil and historical buildings.

OUR LATEST NEWS
This paper discusses how to implement the long-term sustainability of shallow geothermal energy systems, specifically by addressing thermal interference between neighboring borehole heat exchangers (BHEs).
Investing in green sustainable energy is key to tackling increasing global energy demands. The EU Horizon 2020 project GEO4CIVHIC faces this challenge head on with cutting edge heating and cooling technology. The project integrates geothermal energy in civil and historical buildings using shallow geothermal heating and cooling solutions.
The UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe developed an infographic of the real demo site of Angel’s Gate in the UNESCO World Heritage site city of Ferrara ( Italy) to present the work achieved through the GEO4CIVHIC project. In the infographic are described and illustrated the technologies used through the project as well as the infrastructures put in place.
UNESCO Venice Office interviews Dr. Adriana Bernardi, coordinator of GEO4CIVHIC Project, about the effects of the pandemic on all our lives and on the development of the EU funded projects
